The leadership and some members of the NPP’s Creative Arts for Change had a rare opportunity of meeting the President of the republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, few days ago. The meeting, however short, seemed satisfactory to some of the members who attended.
Others too wallowed in worry of not being able to voice their grievances to the first gentleman of Ghana.
This meeting was necessitated by the discontentment and disappointment some of the members of the group had towards the sector minister, Hon. Catherine Ablema Afeku.
Days before the meeting, the political group had seen some of their members on the heels of the sector minister for non-performance and over-concentration on the tourism sector. Some of the members were scared the performance of the minister so far would make campaigning for a second term for the NPP a conundrum that had the condiments for the segregation of the hitherto unified group.
In the meeting with the President, the leader of the group, Mr. Ahmed Bandah, popularly called Bandex, suggested to the President, as a measure for craving some attention for the creative and cultural industries, consider an additional deputy minister who will be solely in charge of the Culture and creative industries.
The group also requested for the re-introduction of some tax exemptions on equipment and instruments imported for creative productions.
The group also reminded the President of their manifesto promise of creating a copyright court for the industry.
These suggestions, they believed hold solution to the lack of attention on the Creative and culture industries, by the sector Minister.
The President on his part promised to look into this and see how he could resolve any issues they have with the sector minister after he’s met her.
He asked the group to put all those suggestions and proposals in writing and present to his office for quick activation.
He promised the coming years have something good for the creative and culture industries of Ghana and pleaded with the Creative arts for change members not to give up.
As at writing this story, a check with the group confirmed they are done with the proposal, going through some proof readings and finally would be submitted to the presidency.
The group was received by the President His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah and his two chiefs of staff.
The CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyemang led the group. However the minister for tourism , arts and culture was not part of this meeting.
